DD-WRT Firmware for Linsys WRT54G 2.2

I had this Linsys WRT54G 2.2 wireles/LAN Router for almost 3 years now and yet I have not been able to make it work for my internet access.  The router acts as a gateway for my internet access (PC and laptop) and is connected to my DSL router(Zyxel Prestige 643)on static IP.  When connected initially I get a streaming net connection but after a few idle minutes, my net connection is gone. I couldn’t even ping my IP and DNS. So I tried these solutions and how they fared:

  1. Performed a hard 30-30-30 reset  for my Linksys Router on default firmware. Nothing changed and my net is still intermittent.
  2. Performed number 1 above and then upgraded my firmware using Linksys latest firmware update. Did another hard reset. Nothing changed.
  3. I decided on trying an DD-WRT open firmware for this version of Linksys router. Performed a hard reset before and after upgrading the firmware from the DD-WRT website. Initially nothing happened, but when I interchanged the cables to my router, I’ve got stable net connection now!

I still couldn’t make my laptop connect through its wireless access although I suspect this is a problem with the wireles API of ACER rather than the router since my LAN connections are all okay. Hope I’ll be able to fix this.

Update 6/05/09: Now I was able to use the wireless AP of my router using ddwrt. I placed the internet LAN source to one of the router’s LAN. It seems that the internet LAN port has the problem indeed.
